The faculty consolidates
its research expertise in six fields:
Cognitive Systems [1]

The goal of this reseacrh field's scientists is to develop a
unified concept of cognitive systems based upon new research on human
perception and behavior. This, in turn, will be applied in the
creation of innovative robots, 3D displays, virtual environments, and
brain-computer interfaces.

When embedded computer chips are networked online, physical and
virtual worlds merge into "cyber-physical systems.” In this research
field, scientists are undertaking research on the development of the
cyber-physical systems with a particular focus on energy consumption
and quality assurance.

Several of the faculty’s chairs have joined forces in this
research field to develop new ways to analyze data while focusing on
appropriate domains of application such as marketplaces for
information and smart grids.

As their principal task, the chairs involved in this research field
are collaborating on the redesign of the "Future Internet". This
involves innovation in the realm of the diverse media technologies and
consolidating these technologies in the context of the scientists’
conception of a new vision for the Internet.

This research field’s attention spans the range from the
deployment of modern technologies for 3D integration at the micrometer
and nanometer scale to the development of technology platforms that
focus on broadband, wireless, and photonic communication, as well as
sensor technology.

Sustainable Energy Systems & Mobility [11]

Toward the further development of this area of technology whose
importance is pivotal for energy policy, the chairs in this research
field are exploring new ways to generate electricity using wind and
solar energy, as well as stationary and mobile applications of
renewable energy.
