Humanity is able to perceive and respond to the environment. Today, technical systems can be equipped with perceptual skills that also enable them to undertake appropriate actions. These cognitive systems make completely new application scenarios possible that elevate the technologies used for news and the media, telecommunications, medical diagnostics, and rehabilitation to new levels. More than twenty of the School’s departments work in this research field. Their focus is to develop a unified concept of cognitive systems based upon new research on human perception and behavior. This, in turn, will be applied in the creation of innovative robots, 3D displays, virtual environments, and brain-computer interfaces.
