Application and Admission


Applications for the Master's program are accepted for both the winter or the summer semester. If you have completed your first degree at a university in Germany, please apply directly to TU Berlin. In case your first degree is from a foreign university, you have to apply via uni-assist.

Entry Requirements

In the last application periods, less than 5 % of applicants fulfilled the entry requirements listed below and could be admitted. Therefore please read the following list thoroughly and please inform yourself about the contents of the different fields of study. In particular, the field of Theoretical Computer Science was not covered in most applications. Theoretical Computer Science includes courses i.e. on the topics formal languages, automata, computability, complexity, logic. Courses on discrete structures, discrete mathematics, algorithms, data structures, digital logic, design and analysis of algorithms are not recognized in the field of Theoretical Computer Science.

The regulations for subject-specific requirements can be found in § 3 of the Entry Regulations (ZO, information given in German).  Applicants for the master's program are required to provide proof of the following:

  • a first university degree that qualifies for a profession and that has been aquired in a course of study in the subject area Computer Science or a similar, related course of study. The course of study must include at least the following parts:

    36 CP in foundations of computer sciences, including

    • 12 CP in the field of Theoretical Computer Science,
    • 12 CP in the field of Computer Engineering or Information Technology,
    • 12 CP in the field of Methodological and Practical Computer Science,

    18 CP in the field of Mathematics and, additionally, at least 30 CP in the field of computer sciences, not including your thesis.

  • English language proficiency corresponding to level B2 according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR).

The examination board decides on the equivalence and the subject-specific qualifications as well as the approval of acquired language skills. You can find the list of tests and test scores that we accept here.

If your Bachelor in Computer Science is not from TU Berlin, the eligibility of your previous degree program will be reviewed by the examination board. Please complete the suitability assessment form for entering the Master’s degree program Computer Science (Informatik) (Graduate Admissions: quick access 98064). Please send the form and all required documents to TU Berlin directly (in case you have studied at a University in Germany) uni-assist (in case you studied at a foreign university).
