The career prospects for computer scientists with a Master’s degree are reflected in the wide range of application areas for information technology. In their future careers, most computer science graduates will be engaged in the development of hardware and software systems for the industrial, business and administrative sectors. Computer science graduates are increasingly finding jobs in IT application companies rather than in “pure” IT companies. By IT application companies, we mean the manufacturers of technical products (automotive and mechanical engineering sectors) as well as banks, insurance companies, commercial enterprises and the administrative sector. Computer science graduates with their good analysis and communication skills are also in great demand in corporate consultancies. And with these skills they are also well qualified to perform leadership functions. Graduates are, in addition, particularly well positioned to embark on careers in science and research, both at public research institutions and in the research departments of industry. Many computer science graduates also pursue a career in education and training, at universities, technical colleges, vocational-training or further-education institutions.
