Description: | We will build a display based on rear projection that is able to sense multi-touch input, enabling a user to interact with a system with more than one finger at a time. The touch interaction will be based on frustrated total internal reflection: light is ideally reflected inside the screen material, for certain grazing angles it is reflected totally, i.e. stays within glass. If the user touches the screen, photons tunnel onto the finger and are then reflected diffusely into the room. A video camera can record the diffuse reflection. The project involves understanding the technology, selecting the right materials, then building the screen, and processing the camera output to locate the touch positions. As a prototype using the system, we will finally port a system for 3D shape modeling to use multi-touch interaction |
