The Faculty IV Electrical Engineering and Computer Science is one of Germany’s strongest research departments in its field. In 2014, our external funding reached a record level of 41.1 million euros, coming primarily from industry, the German Research Foundation (DFG), the German Ministry for Education and Research (BMBF), and the European Union (EU). More than seventy young scholars receive their Ph.D. annually. Our research collaboration with top universities in North America, Europe, and Asia ensure a constant exchange of ideas and enable young scientists and scholars to undertake research stays that are mutually interesting and rewarding. The numerous honors awarded to the faculty’s scientists are yet another reason for our outstanding reputation. For example, three of the faculty’s professors have been presented with the prestigious Gottfried Wilhelm Leibniz Prize awarded by the German Research Foundation (DFG), two professors have been selected for an Alexander von Humboldt Professorship, Germany's top international research award.

Research Profile

The faculty consolidates its research expertise in six  research fields: Cognitive Systems, Cyber-Physical Systems, Data Analytics & Cloud, Future Internet Media & Technology, Integration Technology & Photonics and Sustainable Energy Systems & Mobility

Further information on the individual fields of specialization, research, projects, and publications, as well as the participation of our staff members in scientific conferences, can be found on the websites of the respective chairs - accessible via either the “Institutes” page or the “Professors” page. The Faculty Calendar (only in German) gives an overview on activities, events, conferences, workshops, and talks.
